Honouring Dr. Janice Harvey and her dedication to her patients, students, colleagues and community
Dr. Janice Harvey, a family physician and dedicated clinical instructor, widely recognized for her expertise in sports and exercise medicine, passed away on December 6, 2023.
In addition to her clinical practice and passion for educating the next generation of family physicians, Dr. Harvey developed, and served as the chair of OCFP’s MSK Education: Joint Assessment Made Easy Workshop. With a focus on practical hands-on learning, Dr. Harvey brought her dedication to this workshop so family doctors could improve their physical exam skills to diagnose and treat patients with musculoskeletal injuries.
Dr. Harvey was a pioneer in the sports medicine field at McMaster University. As the first family physician who specialized in sports medicine to work full-time at the university, she spent over 30 years providing compassionate care to students and athletes on the field and in clinic. As a tribute to this work, Dr. Harvey was inducted into the McMaster Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023 as a builder.
As a physician and educator, Dr. Harvey was a role model and mentor to students and fellows and a cherished friend to her colleagues at the OCFP and within the department of Athletics and Recreation at McMaster University.
A celebration of life will be planned in the spring of 2024.
