Welcoming the Next Generation of Family Physicians
I am proud to welcome the 602 medical students who matched to family medicine in the first iteration of CaRMS in Ontario.
By choosing family medicine, you are stepping into one of the most impactful roles in our health care system at a time when there is real opportunity to help shape its future.
As President of the Ontario College of Family Physicians, I want you to know that you are not beginning this journey alone. You are now part of a strong community of family physicians who are invested in your growth and committed to helping you succeed.
From medical school, through residency, and throughout your career, the OCFP will support you with mentorship, peer connection, leadership opportunities, professional development, and advocacy that advances family physician excellence across Ontario.
This year, we are pleased to see more medical students choose family medicine, although we know there’s more to do to ensure it remains an attractive and sustainable career for you and for future generations. As you prepare for the years ahead, we will continue advocating for investments in technology that reduce administrative workload, support digital innovation and infrastructure, and optimize team-based care so you can spend more time with patients.
Your decision to choose family medicine strengthens primary care today and reflects confidence in the future of our profession. You represent the next generation of family physicians in Ontario, and we are committed to helping you build a strong and fulfilling career.
Congratulations on this significant achievement, and welcome to family medicine.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jobin Varughese, MD, CCFP (COE), FCFP, CMD
