OCFP welcomes aspiring family physicians: CaRMS 2025

March 4, 2025

Dear aspiring Family Physicians,

I want to congratulate and welcome all who have just been matched to Family Medicine. The dedication that medical students and residents bring to our profession is exceptional, and we look forward to having you join this important and rewarding profession.

Family Physicians are essential to the health of Ontarians. Whether you work in comprehensive office-based care, urgent care, hospitals, or in a focused practice, I know the care you provide will profoundly impact your patients and community.

Throughout your careers, many of you will be fortunate to develop relationships with your patients. Often, we begin caring for our patients when they are infants or children, and continue to support them as they grow into adults, start their own families and as they age. It is truly a privilege and one of the many joys of Family Medicine.

As you begin your career, I assure you that wherever Family Medicine takes you, the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) will be here to support you. Residency goes by quickly, but you will look back on it and the relationships you’ve built with your patients, staff and colleagues fondly.

At the OCFP, we are working toward building a better health system where Family Physicians are supported by a team and the right technology. With the right supports in place for Family Physicians, patients will have better access to care and medical students will continue to see Family Medicine as a rewarding career choice.

We want to see – and believe it’s possible – to return our profession to a place where all Family Physicians can thrive in their practice while caring for Ontarians. We are encouraged to have you join us at such a pivotal time for our profession.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jobin Varughese, MD, CCFP (COE), FCFP, CMD
President, OCFP
